North Carolina FC Falls to Charlotte FC 4-1 in U.S. Open Cup Extra Time Victory

Charlotte FC secured a 4-1 victory over North Carolina FC in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC. The match had action through 90 minutes, although both teams struggled to find the back of the net in regular time. Charlotte FC fielded a rotated lineup, giving opportunities to several squad players such as Jack neeley, who made his Charlotte FC debut coming on at minute 106. Nikola Petkovic appeared at minute 102 to score after being out for months of recovering from an injury.

The first goal finally came in the 97th minute when Liel Abada scored for Charlotte. NCFC responded quickly, with Rafa Mentzingen equalizing in the 99th minute.
Charlotte regained the lead in the 104th minute through a header by Patrick Agyemang. Late goals from Nikola Petkovic in the 119th minute and Kerwin Vargas in stoppage time sealed the win for Charlotte.
After the game, Jack Neeley spoke to media about the game and his debut.
" It's what i've been working for this whole time, it's a dream come true.. it's really awesome. "
The player pathway at Charlotte was part of the conversation given his debut, "this is what the club is offering for.. young players, they give us opportunities and when they think we're ready they expect a lot from us and i think that's the way it needs to be."
Charlotte FC’s victory advances them to the Round of 16 in the U.S. Open Cup, where they will face D.C. United on May 21st, at 7:30 PM eastern time at Audi Field in Washington D.C.
