The breakthrough came in the 60th minute when Idan Toklomati tapped in an assist from Kerwin Vargas. Five minutes later, Wilfried Zaha provided the assist for Kerwin Vargas, who slotted home Charlotte’s second goal.

Charlotte held 57% possession, generated 13 shots, and landed 4 on target, while Toronto managed just 10 attempts and 3 on goal. A notable improvement form the rough games that Charlotte had during the month of June.

It was a match in which Charlotte FC positioned themselves in a much better playoff position. The work being done by the team is starting to show as the ball movement from defense to the final third has significantly improved. We can credit Deans ability to stitch together players that compliment each other. With Pep Biel leading in contributions, Ashley Westwood Leading the team, Kerwin Vargqas and Idan Toklomati coming in hot since the departure of Patrick Agyemang, the team is strong and show no signs of slowing down.

While Adilson Malanda and Tim Ream, contained Toronto’s attack, it only sparked questions about how much stronger the team can be with Nathan Byrne's return approaching after returning to train with the team. On the other hand, with Malanda trying to make a jump to Europe, after rumours of a PSV signing was reported at the beginning of July, it leads to uncertainty in the back line. For now, Charlotte has a solid starting 11 and supporters hope it stays that way.

Charlotte FC will now prepared for the Leagues Cup as they prepare to face Juarez FC, Chivas and Monterrey all at the Bank of America. About the competition, we asked Kerwin Vargas if there was anything different that they were doing to prepare to play agiainst these Mexican teams and he noted that the " the team has been focused on this game (Toronto).. we'll wait for the work week to start to focus on them."

All in all, while the team has not won a trophy in its 4 years of existence, the presence and support continues to grow as Charlotte FC brings a winning mentality and backs it with performances like tonights. Something that Charlotte's other professional sports teams have failed to achived in comparison to this franchise.

You can catch Charlottes next game July 31, at the Bank of America, 7:30 PM EST. time they will face Juarez FC.
